Gleneagles Mountain Reserve

Located on the Eastern Border of Zimbabwe with Mozambique is a truly amazing oasis of biodiversity in the midst of an area experiencing increasing population growth and deforestation.  The 2700 hectare reserve is a diverse landscape featuring riverine forests, grasslands, crystal-clear rivers, waterfalls, mountains, and valleys. It is home to a wide range of species, from the Samango monkey to the endangered Blue Swallow. The reserve spans altitudes from 850 meters at its lowest point to approximately 1,650 meters above sea level at its highest peaks. It is bordered by the Nyanga National Park to the north and west, the Aberfoyle Tea Estate to the south, and the town of Sagambe, with its expanding rural population, to the east. .

Sagambe Reforestation Project

The Sagambe Reforestation Project aims to restore 1,000 hectares on the outskirts of Sagambe Village, adjoining a neighbouring riverine forest where deforestation has left the land degraded. The project focuses on planting indigenous trees to bring back biodiversity and improve ecosystem health. Local villagers will participate in the replanting efforts, earning financial incentives higher than what they would make from growing crops on this land, ensuring sustainable livelihoods. A Biodiversity School will also be created to teach local children about conservation and how they can help protect the planet for future generations.
